Hi sisters,

This topic is a little sensitive for me as I know it may be for others, but it is definitely a necessary conversation.

Have you ever found yourself trying to find validation from others on the way you look or how a particular piece of clothing fits you? That was me for the longest time when I was fresh into postpartum. I found myself questioning if I looked good or am I still attractive.

As a midsized woman, my clothing began to look awkward on my body because I did not know how to style my body. I tried to cover myself and hide all of my curves. When I did try something different, I searched for validation rather than just taking the time to find what flatters my curves and what I felt comfortable in.

It wasn’t until months later that I decided that I wanted to embrace my new body. I wanted to embrace every stretch mark, every curve, and the pooch. I realized my body is my temple regardless and that I needed to embrace the fact that it has gone through a beautiful transition.

Embracing your body means loving who you are, and where you are. It means learning your body type and working with what you have.

Now if you are like me and you want to see some changes, that is okay too. But it is important to love yourself throughout the journey.

Here are six ways to embrace your body:

  1. Speak positive affirmations about your body.
  2. Dress in something you find that flatters you.
  3. Stop looking for others to validate how you look.
  4. View exercise as a healthy lifestyle change and not punishment.
  5. Look in the mirror more.
  6. Take more pictures of just yourself.

Once I began to embrace my body, my mind began to shift. What I would look at as negative, I began to find more positivity in. I stopped looking down on myself and was able to find more light in what was around me. My confidence began to grow.

I began to affirm my own beauty and realize that my body is amazing. I practice more self-love and set an example for others loving themselves. I realized that our bodies are what makes us so unique.

I encourage everyone to practice body positivity and show yourselves love throughout your journey. Learn your body, listen to your body, and love your body. Until next time,

Peace, Love, and Happiness.
